Elderly concerned at rising meal costs - McCrea

Dr William McCrea DUP Mid-Ulster representative has stated that his office has received a number of calls from very deeply concerned elderly citizens.

He said: “Over the past days I have received a number of calls from our elderly population expressing disquiet at the price tag being put on their dinner and tea delivered to them.

“It seems that the elderly will have to pay for this service and at the same time the hours given to them through carers and home helps are to be reduced accordingly.

“I am also informed that on Bank Holidays the pensioners will receive food the day before that is frozen and the personalised community service is to be changed.

“I believe passionately that our elderly population will feel more and more vulnerable, isolated and neglected and the carers and home helps that provided a valued lifeline to the elderly are to be sidelined.”

He continued: “What kind of a society are we becoming when we boast of great prosperity and economic advancements whilst at the same time our elderly who sacrificed so much to bring this prosperity are to be looked after on the cheap.

“I am seeking a meeting with the Trust officers to discuss this situation and hope that our priorities will acknowledge the value we should place on our seniors,” said Dr McCrea.
